Frequently Asked
Questions
Q: How is
your staff selected?
A: Larry and our Camp
Director handpick our staff. Our coaches consist primarily of High School level
coaches and College level players. We also select outstanding youth
coaches whenever possible. Counselors are typically college age.
Q: How are
campers assigned to teams?
A: Following opening
ceremonies, the campers are separated by age into three groups. The groups
are then divided between 20 baskets. As the campers shoot around in
these groups,
Coach Steele, the Camp Director, Coaches and Counselors observe and take notes on
playersí strengths and abilities. Following this initial evaluation, we
provide as much playing, running and "burning off of energy" as possible (helps
them sleep at night). Once the campers are in their cabins for the
evening, the coaches meet and begin the assignment of teams. This process
continues Monday morning, until we have a realistic evaluation of each camper.
At which time, we divide campers into teams that will support equal play,
self-improvement and fun. These teams make up two to three leagues, and
provide fair competition within each league.
Q: What is
your staff to camper ratio?
A: We have one coach per ten
campers and one counselor to an average of 20 campers. Including Coach
Steele, the Camp
Director and Trainer, the staff to camper ratio is typically 8 campers
to each staff member.
Q: Will
Larry Steele be at camp?
A: Yes, Coach Steele
lives at camp during the week, and is dedicated to being personally involved at each of his camps. He conducts many of the
daily clinics, lectures and demonstrations and interacts with
every camper.
Q: How are
sleeping arrangements determined?
A: Each
camper is assigned to a cabin by age. All efforts are made to honor
individual housing requests.
Q: Can my
son or daughter bunk with a friend?
A: No problem. Each of our
cabins sleep 22 campers. During registration, we suggest campers save a bunk for
a friend, if they have a specific request. If for some reason they get separated,
counselors will help everybody get where they want to be prior to lights out the
first night of camp.
Q: What
types of meals are served?
A: Our camp menus meet USDA
guidelines. We serve food that is nutritious and that kids like to eat. Meals
will include items such as pizza, chicken fingers, hot dogs, burgers, and
spaghetti. Peanut butter and jelly is always available.
Q: Do you
accommodate food allergies or diet restrictions?
A: Yes. Please be sure to
indicate any allergies or restrictions on the camperís registration form. Our
kitchen staff keeps a list of allergies posted in the kitchen throughout the
week and it is not uncommon to accommodate specific dietary requirements.
Q: Do you
accommodate vegetarians?
A: Yes. Our kitchen staff
is made aware of the number of vegetarians we have at camp each week so they can
be sure to offer vegetarian options.
Q: Can I
visit my child at camp?
A: Yes, you can visit as
often as you wish and whenever you wish. Parents are invited to observe or
shoot around or have a meal with the coaches and campers. All we ask is
that you check in with Camp staff when you arrive.
Q: Should
I send money with my child and if so, how much?
A: All-you-can-eat breakfast, lunch and dinner is included in the price of
camp. We do have a camp store where your child can buy snacks and
beverages during free time. All cash must be deposited in camper's store account at
registration. For snacks and beverages, $20-$30 has historically been
sufficient. However, we also have hats, beanies, sweatshirts, T-shirts and
other items for purchase that may require additional money for your camper.
We recommend making apparel purchases the evening of registration.
Q:
Where can I send a letter to my son/daughter during the week?
A: PO Box
